Thrombosis Registry Of Palliative and Hospice Units (TROPHY)
 The management of cancer associated thrombosis is challenging since patients have a higher risk of recurrent thromboses and bleeding when compared with the general population. Studies over the past 10 years have identified that low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) is more effective than warfarin in treating cancer patients with thrombosis.
In order to investigate the best way to manage thrombosis in the advanced cancer population, we need to have a better appreciation of the problems such patients experience. By setting up a registry of hospice and palliative care patients across Europe we hope to generate the data to direct future research and identify whether our current management of thrombosis in the palliative setting is appropriate.
